Anonymous street artist Banksy's "Show me the Monet" is expected to reach up to £5m at auction

"Show me the Monet!" It's been a busy week for anonymous street artist Banksy. His 2005 reworking of Claude Monet's Bridge Over a Pond of Water Lillies, which adds modern-day pollution to the picturesque scene, has gone on show in London. Displayed at Sotheby’s New Bond Street galleries until Saturday, Show Me The Monet is expected to reach up to £5m at auction and, true to its name, become one of his most expensive pieces. But earlier in the week the elusive UK star lost the trademark rights to his image of a protester throwing a bunch of flowers. Ruling in favour of a greetings card company, the EU regulator accused the Bristolian artist of being "inconsistent with honest practices" by trying to protect it only to avoid copyright laws that would force him to reveal his identity.

Banksy, whose identity remains the subject of much speculation, has previously described copyright as "for losers". (📸 Getty Images). Tap the link in our bio to read more about the dispute.
