Sugarboy set to release first studio album in April

The Nigerian music industry remains the market leader in the supply of content to feed the growing global interest in Afrobeats music made popular by the Legend Fela Anikulapo Kuti. From the G-Worldwide stable, fast-rising dancehall artiste Sugarboy says he is ready to add his own body of work to this growing repertoire of Nigerian music available for consumption by fans globally. The artiste on Tuesday 28th of February 2017 announced plans to release his debut album “BELIEVE” on the 22nd of April 2017 at an exclusive event at the Grand Ballroom of The Oriental Hotel, Lagos.

The album which will be the second to come out of the G-Worldwide label in the space of two years is a project that the artiste and his team have been working on for quite a while now. Sugarboy says it is the culmination of hard work and dedication on the part of his team to push him till the vision for his own debut body of work becomes a reality.
Asked if there would be any notable collaborations on the album, the singer says it is best at the moment to wait till the fans get an experience of the upcoming album, raising questions if this would mirror the label’s last album project which only featured artistes signed to the label. The viability of this approach however has become a moot point judging from the critical acclaim that attended Sugarboy’s label mate Kiss Daniel debut album. New Era showed that the label’s influence was not a fluke, as the album debuted at Number 8 on the Billboard World Albums Chart; earning both the artiste and G-Worldwide Entertainment numerous awards.
Brand Consultant to the label Edward Israel-Ayide says the label is trying its best to disrupt the status quo in the Nigerian music industry, citing examples such as Macklemore and Ryan Lewis and Chance The Rapper’s out of the box approaches to music marketing as the label’s inspiration. To suggestions of perceived clannishness by the label, Israel-Ayide says this is not the case, and that the relationship of the label and its acts with other industry players could never have been better.
Leading up to the album, Sugarboy had previously released major hits such as “Hola Hola”, ” Double”, “Legalize”, and “Dada Omo” as well as doing what a reviewer labelled “God’s work” on collaborations with other acts on the G-Worldwide label.
The “BELIEVE” album will be available online and offline on the 22nd of April, and free copies would be available to guests at the Album Launch Concert on the same day.
